• Fundació Bit launches a program for all those companies that want to attend the next edition of the Mobile World Congress with advantageous economic conditions; either with its own stand (€ 2,400) or shared (€ 480). The deadline for submitting applications ends October 23.

• La Información looked at Filmin’s finances, whose revenue grew by 40% in 2018 reaching 3.5 million euros in turnover and a positive result of 100,000 euros. 

• Sampol’s Inn Sampol project won the first prize of ConnectUp’s competition in the Grow category. In this link are the profiles of the rest of the projects that made it to the final (Playspace, Avoris, Animal Stem, etc.).

• Olive Valley have published an interview with Affilired, a marketing performance agency, on their website.

• APSL attended the latest edition of the computer security event RootedCon and shared the experience on their blog.

• Hotelinking has announced that its platform is now also available in Chinese. And they have also published a post about social wifi.

• 16/10 – Bdigital Conference on Smart Content, organized by Brújula where Rafael Manera, User Experience Manager of Meliá will participate.

• 24/10 – Yaiza Canosa, founder and CEO of GOI, will participate in the Tramuntana Tech Talks. She will talk about her experience (has founded several startups despite being under 30) in the world of technological companies. GOI is a logistics startup that has already managed more than 50,000 shipments for companies such as El Corte Inglés, IKEA or Worten and whose revenue last year exceeded 7 figures.

• 24/10 – H4CK TH3 iSL4ND, a hackathon organized by trivago where teams formed by business and tech people will work on projects related to sustainability.

• 29/10 – Blockchain on AWS. Palma Amazon Web Services group meetup in which there will be talks on “Technical considerations for blockchain networks using AWS” and “Blockchain technology to implement a distributed reservation platform”

• 31/10 – Álvaro Ramis, UX Specialist at Amazon, will give a talk at the Tramuntana Tech Talks about how design decisions impact the business side of a company. Previously Álvaro has led design teams in the digital area of BBVA and Ticketbis, acquired by eBay.

• 08/11 – What could a hotel predict with Big Data/IA? Meetup in which two talks on neural networks and the type of predictions that can be applied in the hotel sector will take place.

• 27/11 – Management 3.0 workshop to learn about team and people leadership. Led by Josep Riudavets (former Roiback’s CTO) and Pablo Domingo (ex-King and eDreams).

Essentialist, a custom luxury travel agency with AI, will participate in the Acceleration program; while Mansion Games, a video game studio with a transmedia model, will participate in the PlayStation Corporate program.

• The Balearic Government opens file to Trivago for rewarding the hotels that pay the most. The penalty could reach 660,000 euros.

Habitissimo is looking for App Developers!
We are looking for two people to integrate in our technology team. We are adapting our methodology towards a multiplatform environment, using always native technologies, with code in Swift and Kotlin. For this, we need a person with experience in Android app development and another in iOS app development. • Álvaro Medina has been appointed new Fundació Bit manager, the public company that runs Parc Bit. Álvaro is a computer engineer and until now he worked as a technical director of mobile applications at the company APSL.

• The Port of Palma will be one of the 14 headquarters of the ‘Ports Fund 4.0’. The fund will be dedicated to financing projects related to logistics efficiency, processes digitalization, environmental sustainability and energy; and security. Its initial endowment will be of 25 million euros. Funding on each selected company will range from 15.000€ for ideas or start-ups in the initial phase to 2M€ for scale-ups. The initiative will officially start on October 3rd.

• PalmaActiva is looking for companies to participate in its web and applications development dual program. Companies participating in the program may incorporate personnel and obtain a 100% subsidy of the costs.

• Travel Compositor has developed a special version of its multi-destination platform for Star Alliance that offers in exclusive the content of the 28 airlines that are part of the alliance.

• The world’s most modern cryptocurrency ATM has been operating in a Playa de Palma restaurant for a month. According to the promoters of the initiative that between 8 and 20 daily transactions take place, 80% of them being the sale of cryptocurrencies to get euros. The second phase of the project plans to incorporate the use of dataphones.

• Article about the company FastPayHotels, which business model is based on paying hotels almost at the same time that the reservation is made. It is especially focused on the sale of non-refundable rates

Mallorca Tech News 📰

• Balearic Islands, pioneer community after approving a project to implement a telematic network for monitoring large consumers in all the islands. The development of the project will cost 1.5 million euros that will come from the Sustainable Tourism Tax.

• The British venture capital firm Magenta Partners, has invested in the Mallorcan FastPayHotels. After the operation, Tom Matthews, co-founder partner of Magenta, will join the company’s management team. The amount invested was not disclosed but Magenta takes part in operations between 5 and 20 million euros.

• A group of young entrepreneurs with experience in companies such as Trivago, 21buttons or Stayforlong have launched pepecos.es, the first metasearch engine of animals for adoption. It currently has 15,000 registered animals, the largest in Spain

• After several years of development, it seems that the Smach Z portable console is ready to go on the market. Financed with more than 1 million euros through crowdfunding campaigns, it was presented at the last edition of the E3 fair. This is the first portable device compatible with the Steam platform
